North Carolina Asian American Advocacy Day

In honor of Asian & Pacific American Heritage Month this May, community members gathered at the North Carolina General Assembly on Wednesday for a day of advocacy. The event, organized by North Carolina Asian Americans Together, was titled “NCAAT in Action.” They will host the 5th annual Asian American Advocacy Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the NC General Assembly in Raleigh. The event empowers community members to meet with legislators, share stories, and advocate for AAPI priorities, with training provided

Throughout the day, participants meet with lawmakers, share personal experiences, and discuss policy priorities ranging from language access and education equity to small business support and public safety. Organizers emphasize the importance of building relationships with elected officials while ensuring that AAPI voices are represented in decisions that shape local communities.

Main issues that will be discussed include defending immigrant rights against federal crackdowns, promoting language justice, addressing hate crimes, protecting Data Equity, increasing funding for community-based organizations, and advocating for civic engagement to support a diverse, fast-growing population

For many participants, this gathering will serve as both a celebration of cultural heritage and a call to action. By bringing constituents directly into the legislative space, they aim to clarify the policymaking process and encourage sustained civic participation beyond a single day of events.
