Every year, thousands of visitors gather in Southern California to experience one of America’s most diverse cultural festivals—the 626 Night Market. It’s known as the largest Asian-inspired night markets in the United States, combining shopping, live entertainment, and food. Visitors can enjoy classics like takoyaki, dumplings, grilled meat skewers, fried rice, ramen, and Korean fried chicken. There are live musical performances, DJ sets, dance groups, and martial arts demonstrations on multiple stages. Shopping is also big at this market with handmade products and collectibles sold by small businesses and artists.

The 626 Night Market is primarily held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. The festival’s name comes from the 626 area code, which covers most of San Gabriel Valley. This area has been known as one of the cultural centers of Asian culture in the US for many years. This event was founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Jonny C. Hwang, who was inspired by Taiwan’s famous night markets. He wanted to recreate the same atmosphere that is present there in this market. The first 626 Night Market was held in Old Town Pasadena in 2012. Organizers expected only a small crowd, but the attendance was far more. These visitors caused heavy traffic and overcrowding. Organizers moved the future events to the much larger Santa Anita Park. Today, each event features more than 250 vendors and attracts tens of thousands of visitors.

Because of its popularity, visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets online before arriving, as admission lines can become very long. The festival is typically held over select weekends during the summer and early fall. Parking and shuttle services are often provided to help accommodate the large crowds.

The market changes every year. New food vendors, performances, and limited-time attractions are introduced each season, giving  visitors that come back something different. Seasonal decorations, photo opportunities, and appearances from special guests make the event unique.

The 626 Night Market has gained a strong following on social media, where visitors frequently share photos and videos of various types of food that they eat. This makes this area great for bloggers, photographers, and influencers.

The success of the 626 Night Market sparked a wave of similar events across Southern California, helping popularize the concept of Asian-style night markets in the United States. After its debut in 2012, festivals such as the KTOWN Night Market in Los Angeles, the Little Saigon Night Market in Westminster, and the MPK Night Market in Monterey Park were established, each offering their own mix of street food, live entertainment, and local vendors. Today, the 626 Night Market remains the most well-known of these events and continues to inspire communities across the country to host their own night markets.
