Inspiring the Next Generation
In August 2025, the North Carolina Asian American Coalition (NCAAC) and the International Leadership Foundation (ILF) collaborated and hosted the Young Entrepreneurship Contest and Award Ceremony. The event provided participants all across North Carolina with the opportunity to share innovative business ideas while learning what it takes to be a leader.
Theme and Purpose
The theme for this year’s competition was “Great Challenges Require Greater Solutions.” It asked participants to consider real-world problems, such as how global tariffs impact small businesses in the U.S., and then devise solutions to address them. The contest wasn’t just about winning; it was about gaining experience, building confidence, and learning how to tackle challenges with innovation.
How It Worked
The contest was open to high school and college participants working in teams of up to five. Each group submitted a business plan and then presented their ideas in front of a panel of judges. Presentations were held in Cary, NC, but there was also a Zoom option, which made it easier for more people to join in.
Award Ceremony
The event wrapped up with the Awards Ceremony and Conference at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. Finalists gave their presentations, answered tough questions from the judges, and celebrated their hard work. Winners were recognized not only for their creativity but also for showing how their ideas could make a real difference.
Skills and Impact
What stood out the most was how much participants learned. They practiced teamwork, public speaking, business planning, and financial thinking, all while connecting with mentors and community leaders. For many, it was their first chance to pitch an idea in such a professional setting, and it really showed how events like this can push people out of their comfort zones and help them grow.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 contest proved how important it is to have spaces where young people can test their ideas and build confidence. By encouraging participants to dream big and think about real-world solutions, NCAAC and ILF are helping to shape future leaders who can make an impact not only in business but also in their communities
